Okie Fit Chicks

I’ve got another guest post for you all today & I couldn’t be more excited! I found these chicas on instagram not too long ago and knew we would be fast friends. I loved what they were presenting and I loved that it seemed ‘real life’ (I know you know what I mean by that! No one wants a perfectly staged everything).

Okie Fit Chicks Guide on Juggling Fitness & Family
We don’t claim to be fitness experts, just a couple of busy mommas doing our best to live a fit lifestyle and inspire other momma’s along the way. We know first hand that busy mommas don’t always have the luxury of time to spend an hour or more in the gym, so we’ve compiled a few of our favorite tips and “go-to tricks” that help keep us on track and motivated.

1. Squeeze that workout in wherever you can

  • Working out in the morning before the kids wake up is a game changer. This small step has the ability to set the tone for your entire day. You’ll get those happy endorphins flowing, you’ll feel more accomplished, and you’ll want to eat well after doing something good for yourself.
  • Get creative with playground equipment when those kiddos are playing outside! Monkey bars are great for pull-ups, and a bench has endless possibilities! Think tricep dips, step-ups, knee ups, push-ups… just think outside the box.
  • For mommas with younger babies, a 20-minute brisk walk can do wonders! Load that baby in a jogger or carrier and enjoy the fresh air. It will do wonders for you both.
  • We love using fitness apps loaded with short workouts. our fav’s are HOT5 and 7 (7 Minute Workout).

2. Every choice counts

  • If I’m only able to squeeze in a short dose of cardio, I know I need to reduced my carb intake and definitely avoid any and all sugar! I tend to think of my food and workouts as a bank account balance. If I’m going to indulge, I have to burn those calories off.
    • Remember to keep that metabolism revved by eating small meals/snacks every 3 or so hours.

3. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)

  • We love this highly effective workout. It’s great for busy moms! It tones, strengthens, blasts fat, and kills major calories all in a short session!

4. Find a fit buddy

  • Not only is there a big accountability factor here, but someone you can exchange ideas and inspiration with is extremely motivating! Not to mention, reaching goals together and sharing that satisfaction is worth celebrating!

5. Meal Planning

  • Let’s keep it real for a minute, we’re moms! We don’t have time to “meal prep” the conventional way, but meal planning only takes a few minutes. By pre-planning our meals, and purposefully and thoughtfully selecting groceries at the store, we’ve set the tone for healthy eating, and bonus- enjoyed some family time on Sunday, rather than prepping and packing meals. WIN!
  • Wash and chop those fruits and veggies when you get home. This is a big time saver!
  • Prep your breakfast the night before. If you like protein smoothies, measure out your ingredients the night before, so all you have to do is add water and blend!
  • Double up on those healthy recipes that your family loves! Protein pancakes are great the next day!
  • Keep healthy, fresh options at eye level in the fridge. When I have an impulse to snack, the first thing I do is open the refrigerator door and ponder… So, if I happen to have a pretty bowl of berries at eye level, I’m inclined to eat a handful!

Last but not least…

Our last bit of advice is simple. A healthy lifestyle is not a diet, it’s a mentality!
The goal isn’t having the perfect body…the goal is feeling good in YOUR body!! Stay connected and listen to your body! It has a lot to say! Remember too, we all get off track sometimes or have bad days. Don’t waste time feeling bad and beating yourself up! Just find what motivates you and use that inspiration to get back on track! Your body will thank you!

This is a great little guide to getting started and maintaining your health!
Also… guys. Don’t underestimate tools like fitness/health instagram accounts. Fill your feed with things that MOTIVATE you. I know that social media is a big time sucker these days (for all of us), just make sure its filled with positive and healthy things! You’ll be more successful in your goals. I promise! It’s also a good space to keep you accountable (post about those healthy choices) and to make fit friends and connections.
Okay, rant over.
I just love you guys and am grateful for your support with the blog! I hope that it helps motivate you to make healthier choices- that’s the whole point!
